Archaeological sites of Mexico

Mexico has thousands of archaeological sites across almost all of its territory, and several are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, among them Teotihuacan, Chichén Itzá, Monte Albán, Palenque and El Tajín.

Many others are less famous but important: Xochicalco, in Morelos; Cacaxtla, in Tlaxcala, known for its murals; Alta Vista or Chalchihuites, in Zacatecas, a site on the northern edge of Mesoamerica; and San Antonio Nogalar, in Tamaulipas, in the northeast.
