Roberto Gómez Bolaños, "Chespirito"
Roberto Gómez Bolaños (1929–2014), known as “Chespirito”, was a Mexican writer, actor and comedian whose television shows are known throughout Latin America. He created and played El Chavo del Ocho, the orphan boy of the vecindad, whose show, broadcast from the early 1970s, became one of the most watched comedies in Latin American television.
He also created and played El Chapulín Colorado, a clumsy but noble parody superhero famous for the catchphrases “No contaban con mi astucia” (“They didn’t count on my cleverness”) and “Síganme los buenos” (“Follow me, good people”). Both characters are Chespirito’s: El Chavo is the boy of the vecindad and El Chapulín is the superhero.
