Obraje
An obraje was a manufacturing workshop in New Spain, mostly for textiles, where wool and cotton were spun and woven. Many workers, often Indigenous, laboured in very harsh conditions, sometimes locked in to pay off debts.
Obrajes were one of the main forms of manufacturing in the colonial period.
