February 14, 1967 - Treaty of Tlatelolco

The Treaty of Tlatelolco, signed in Mexico City on February 14, 1967, bans nuclear weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was the first treaty to create a nuclear-weapon-free zone in an inhabited region of the world.

Its main promoter was the Mexican diplomat Alfonso García Robles, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982 for his disarmament work.
