Endangered Mexican Species

Mexico is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, and several of its emblematic species are endangered. The vaquita, a small porpoise that lives only in the Upper Gulf of California, is the most threatened marine mammal in the world. The axolotl, an amphibian endemic to the canals of Xochimilco, is also critically endangered.

Other protected species include the jaguar, the Mexican wolf and the scarlet macaw. Hunting, bycatch and habitat loss are their main threats.
