Mariachi
Mariachi is Mexico’s most emblematic musical tradition, the country’s typical music. It was born in the west, and its historic cradle is the state of Jalisco. A mariachi usually combines violins, trumpets, guitars, the vihuela and the guitarrón, with musicians dressed as charros.
In 2011 UNESCO inscribed mariachi on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, alongside other Mexican expressions such as traditional cuisine and the Day of the Dead.
