Las Golondrinas

“Las Golondrinas” (“The Swallows”) is Mexico’s traditional farewell song: it is sung when someone leaves, at farewell parties, retirements, graduations and other goodbyes. The swallow, a migratory bird that leaves and returns with the seasons, gives it its bittersweet image of departure.

Don’t confuse it with “Las Mañanitas”, the traditional birthday song.
