Carlos Fuentes
Carlos Fuentes Macías (1928–2012) was one of Mexico’s great novelists and a central figure of the Latin American Boom; he won the Cervantes Prize in 1987.
His best-known works are La región más transparente (Where the Air Is Clear, 1958), a portrait of Mexico City after the Revolution; La muerte de Artemio Cruz (The Death of Artemio Cruz, 1962), about a tycoon who betrayed revolutionary ideals; and Aura (1962), a gothic novella told in the second person. In Los cinco soles de México (2000) he gathered texts that travel through the country’s history.
