Buñuelos
Buñuelos are thin discs of wheat-flour dough fried until crisp, then dusted with cinnamon sugar or soaked in piloncillo syrup. They are a typical December dessert, sold at Christmas fairs, posadas and town fiestas all over Mexico.
Don’t confuse them with churros: both are fried wheat dough, but churros are ridged sticks while buñuelos are large, flat, brittle wheels.
