Luis Barragán

Luis Barragán (1902–1988), born in Guadalajara, is Mexico’s most celebrated architect, known for an “emotional architecture” of brightly colored walls, light and water. In 1980 he received the Pritzker Prize, architecture’s highest honor; he was its second laureate ever and is still the only Mexican to win it.

His house and studio in Mexico City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He also took part in urban works such as the Torres de Satélite and is associated with the Faro del Comercio in Monterrey.
