Puebla is the capital of its namesake state, set in a high valley east of Mexico City and surrounded by major volcanoes. Its historic center is known for churches, Talavera pottery, and colonial architecture.

La Angelópolis means “the city of angels.” The nickname grows from the city’s historic name, Puebla de los Ángeles, and the foundation tradition in which angels helped mark out the new city.
