Morelia is the capital of Michoacán, located in the central Mexican highlands. Its historic center preserves a large collection of colonial-era churches, palaces, and civic buildings.

It is called La Ciudad de la Cantera Rosa because many landmarks were built with locally quarried pink stone. The warm-colored stone defines the appearance of the cathedral, aqueduct, and much of the historic center.
