Celaya is a city in southeastern Guanajuato, in the agricultural and industrial region known as the Bajío. It has long been an important crossroads and commercial center.

It is called La Puerta de Oro del Bajío because of its strategic position and the prosperity created by agriculture, livestock, commerce, and industry. The name presents Celaya as an important gateway to the Bajío.
