The Legend of the Mayab, the Land of the Pheasant and the Deer
The Legend of the Mayab tells how the god Itzamná created the most beautiful land for the Maya people and chose three animals to live in it: the pheasant, the deer, and the rattlesnake. It is one of the traditional Mexican legends used in the reading-comprehension part of the naturalization exam. Read the story first, then study its characters and places.
