The adelitas (soldaderas)

The adelitas or soldaderas were the women who went with the armies in the 1910 Revolution. They cooked, tended the wounded, carried weapons and often fought as well.

Their name comes from “La Adelita”, one of the most famous revolutionary corridos, which tells of a soldier’s love for a brave woman who followed him into battle.
