June 1, 1906 - Cananea Strike

On June 1, 1906, Mexican miners at the Cananea Consolidated Copper Company in Cananea, Sonora, went on strike. They demanded an eight-hour day and the same pay as American workers. The strike was violently suppressed, with help from armed men from Arizona.

Together with the Río Blanco strike (1907), the Cananea strike is considered a forerunner of the Mexican Revolution because it showed workers’ discontent with the regime of Porfirio Díaz.
