1539 - First Printing Press in Mexico City

In 1539 the first printing press in the Americas was set up in Mexico City, run by the printer Juan Pablos on behalf of the Seville printer Juan Cromberger, with the support of Bishop Juan de Zumárraga and Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza.

Its first books were mostly religious works and catechisms, in Spanish and in Indigenous languages.
