Mesoamerican gods

The peoples of Mesoamerica worshipped many gods tied to nature, war and daily life. Among the Mexica, Huitzilopochtli was the god of war and their main god; Tlaloc, the god of rain; Tonatiuh, the sun god; Coatlicue, the goddess of the earth and fertility, mother of Huitzilopochtli; and Chalchiuhtlicue, the goddess of lakes and running water. Quetzalcóatl, the feathered serpent, was revered by many peoples, and his twin Xólotl was depicted with the axolotl, the amphibian named after him.

The Maya had their own deities: Ixchel, goddess of the moon, and Ek Chuah, god of merchants and cacao, among many others.
