Matilde Montoya
Matilde Montoya (1859–1939) was the first woman to earn a medical degree in Mexico. She graduated from the National School of Medicine in 1887 after years of opposition to a woman studying medicine; President Porfirio Díaz attended her final examination.
Her achievement opened the professions to Mexican women at a time when the university was an almost exclusively male world.
