October 22, 1814 - Constitution of Apatzingán
On October 22, 1814, the insurgent Congress promoted by José María Morelos promulgated in Apatzingán, Michoacán, the Constitutional Decree for the Liberty of Mexican America, known as the Constitution of Apatzingán. Partly inspired by Sentimientos de la Nación, it was the first constitution of independent Mexico.
Because the royalists still controlled most of the country, it never took effect. The first constitution actually in force in independent Mexico was the federal Constitution of 1824.
