Mexico's Federal Entities

Mexico is a federal republic made up of 32 federal entities: 31 states plus Mexico City. Each state has its own capital, governor and state congress.

Until the 2016 constitutional reform, the national capital was called the Federal District. Today Mexico City is a federal entity with its own constitution, though formally not a state, and it remains the capital of the Republic and the seat of the federal powers.
