Pico de Orizaba (Citlaltépetl)

Citlaltépetl, “star mountain” in Nahuatl, is better known as Pico de Orizaba. This dormant volcano rises on the border between Puebla and Veracruz, at the eastern end of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, and reaches about 5,636 metres above sea level.

It is both Mexico’s highest mountain and its tallest volcano, and the tallest volcano in North America. Don’t confuse it with Popocatépetl, the country’s second-highest peak, better known for its frequent activity near Mexico City.
