Sumidero Canyon

Sumidero Canyon is a spectacular gorge carved by the Grijalva River in Chiapas, with almost vertical walls rising up to 1,000 metres above the water. It is a national park near Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the state capital.

It is so emblematic that it appears on the coat of arms of Chiapas. Boat tours through it leave from the colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo.
