Where does the "Baile de Flor de Piña" come from?

The Flor de Piña is a dance from San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec, in the Papaloapan region of Oaxaca. It is performed by women in embroidered huipiles who dance carrying a pineapple on their shoulder, in homage to the region’s pineapple harvest.

Created in the late 1950s, it became one of the most beloved numbers of the Guelaguetza, the great festival held each July in Oaxaca City where delegations from the state’s regions present their traditional dances.
