Trajinera

Trajineras are the flat-bottomed, brightly painted boats, each decorated with a name across its arch, that are poled through the canals of Xochimilco in southern Mexico City. Visitors rent them for festive outings with food, drinks and mariachi or marimba musicians who play from passing boats.

The canals are remnants of the pre-Hispanic lake system and its chinampas (floating gardens), and Xochimilco is a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the historic center of Mexico City.
