Jarabe tapatío

The jarabe tapatío, known abroad as the Mexican hat dance, is a courtship dance in which the couple circles a charro hat thrown on the floor. “Tapatío” means someone or something from Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco.

It is traditionally danced to mariachi or folk band music, with the man in a charro suit and the woman in a china poblana dress, and it is widely regarded as Mexico’s national dance.
