Guelaguetza

The Guelaguetza is Oaxaca’s biggest cultural festival, held every July in Oaxaca City on the Cerro del Fortín hillside. Delegations from the state’s different regions perform traditional dances and music in regional dress and throw small gifts to the crowd. The name comes from Zapotec and refers to the custom of reciprocal giving and mutual help.
