Día de la Madre

In Mexico, Mother’s Day always falls on May 10, regardless of the day of the week — unlike in the United States, where it moves to the second Sunday of May. The date was established in 1922, promoted by the newspaper Excélsior, and it quickly became one of the most important family celebrations of the year.

Families gather for meals, serenades with “Las Mañanitas” are common, and restaurants have one of their busiest days. Don’t confuse it with Teachers’ Day, which Mexico celebrates on May 15.
