Bomba yucateca

Bombas yucatecas are short, witty verses, usually flirtatious or humorous quatrains, recited aloud in Yucatán. They are a highlight of the vaquería, the traditional Yucatecan festival: the jarana dance music pauses, someone shouts “¡Bomba!”, and a dancer improvises or recites a verse to the delight of the crowd.

They are a signature of Yucatecan identity and are often exchanged playfully between men and women during the dance.
