What is the national flower of Mexico?

The dahlia is a flower native to Mexico. The Aztecs cultivated it under the name acocoxóchitl and used it as food, medicine, and ornament. In 1963, President Adolfo López Mateos declared it the national flower of Mexico by presidential decree.

Do not confuse it with the cempasúchil (Mexican marigold), the flower strongly associated with Day of the Dead: it is iconic, but it is not the national flower.
