Pancho Villa

Francisco ‘Pancho’ Villa, born Doroteo Arango (1878–1923), was one of the main military leaders of the Mexican Revolution. He commanded the famous División del Norte and dominated the fighting in northern Mexico, which earned him the nickname ‘El Centauro del Norte’ (the Centaur of the North).

Do not confuse him with Emiliano Zapata, the agrarian leader of the south known as the ‘Caudillo del Sur.’ Villa was assassinated in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua, in 1923.
