After laying down his arms in 1920, Villa had retired to the Canutillo hacienda. Three years later he was ambushed and shot inside his car in Parral. To keep them straight: Emiliano Zapata was assassinated earlier, in 1919, at the Chinameca hacienda in Morelos.
