What is a "Pueblo Mágico"?

Pueblos Mágicos (‘Magical Towns’) is a designation created in 2001 by Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) to recognize towns whose cultural and historical wealth, legends and traditions make them special destinations. Huasca de Ocampo, in the state of Hidalgo, was the first town to receive the title.

Well-known Pueblos Mágicos include Tepoztlán, Real de Catorce and Valle de Bravo, and the list has grown to well over a hundred towns across the country.
