Which culture made stone tables for ceremonial worship?
The Olmecs, who flourished on Mexico’s Gulf coast between roughly 1200 and 400 BC, carved massive stone tables known as “altars” for their ceremonial worship; the best-known examples are at La Venta, in Tabasco. Many of these monuments show a figure emerging from a niche, and scholars believe some served as thrones for rulers.
The Olmecs are the same culture that carved the famous colossal heads.
