Tikal

Tikal was one of the most powerful cities of the ancient Maya world, but its ruins lie in the Petén jungle of northern Guatemala, not in Mexico. Mexico has its own famous Maya sites on the UNESCO World Heritage list, such as Chichén Itzá, Palenque, Uxmal and Calakmul, so it is easy to mix them up.

Remember that the Maya civilization extended beyond Mexico into Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador.
