Tepehuanes

The Tepehuán are one of the main Indigenous peoples of northern Mexico. The southern Tepehuán, who call themselves O’dam, live mainly in the sierras of Durango, while a northern branch, the Ódami, lives in Chihuahua.

Their languages belong to the Uto-Aztecan family, the same family as Nahuatl, and their name is commonly linked to the Nahuatl word tepetl, meaning “mountain” — fitting for a people of the Sierra Madre Occidental.
