Teotihuacán

Teotihuacán is a great archaeological site northeast of Mexico City, home to the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. The city flourished roughly between 100 and 650 AD and was one of the largest urban centers of the ancient world.

The name is Nahuatl and was given centuries later by the Mexica, who found the city already in ruins; it is usually translated as ‘city of the gods’ or ‘place where the gods were made’. The Aztecs did not build it: its original builders remain unknown.
