Telpochcalli

The telpochcalli, or “house of youth,” was the neighborhood school where young Mexica commoners were trained, above all for war, and also learned history, religious customs, and community duties. Education was highly valued among the Mexica, and schooling reached boys of all social classes.

Do not confuse it with the calmécac, the stricter school attached to the temples, where the children of nobles were prepared for the priesthood and positions of leadership.
