San Antonio Nogalar

San Antonio Nogalar is an archaeological site in the Sierra de Tamaulipas, in northeastern Mexico. Its stone structures and plazas belonged to a settlement that is considered a marker of the northeastern frontier of Mesoamerica.

It is one of the few pre-Hispanic sites excavated in Tamaulipas; the French archaeologist Guy Stresser-Péan studied it in depth in the 1960s. Don’t confuse it with Alta Vista (Chalchihuites), which marks the northern frontier on the other side of the country, in Zacatecas.
