El Tajín

El Tajín is a pre-Hispanic city in northern Veracruz, near Papantla, that flourished roughly between 600 and 1200 AD. Its most famous building is the Pyramid of the Niches, whose 365 niches are thought to correspond to the days of the year.

UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site in 1992. Other famous sites were listed in different years — Teotihuacan, Palenque and Monte Albán in 1987, and Chichén Itzá in 1988.
