Cultura maya

The Maya were one of the great Mesoamerican civilizations, flourishing in what is now southeastern Mexico — Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo — as well as Guatemala and Belize. They built city-states such as Palenque, Uxmal, and Chichén Itzá, and developed a writing system, mathematics that included the concept of zero, and remarkably accurate calendars.

Do not confuse them with the Mexica (Aztecs), who rose much later in central Mexico around their capital, Tenochtitlan.
