Chichén Itzá

Chichén Itzá, in the state of Yucatán, was one of the great cities of the Maya civilization, reaching its height between the 9th and 12th centuries. Its most famous building is the pyramid of Kukulcán, known as El Castillo, and the site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Do not confuse it with Teotihuacán, the great city near Mexico City, which belongs to an earlier, different culture.
