Calzada de los Muertos

The Avenue of the Dead (Calzada de los Muertos) is the great north-south axis of Teotihuacán, linking the Pyramid of the Moon, the Pyramid of the Sun, and the Ciudadela with its Temple of Quetzalcóatl, the Feathered Serpent.

The name comes from the Mexica, who visited the ruins centuries after the city’s fall and believed the mounds lining the avenue were tombs. ‘Teotihuacán’ is also their name for the city, roughly meaning ‘place where the gods were made.’
