Cacaxtla

Cacaxtla is an archaeological site in the small central state of Tlaxcala, famous for its remarkably well-preserved murals painted in vivid colors, including the great Battle Mural. It was the capital of the Olmeca-Xicalanca people and flourished after the decline of Teotihuacan, roughly between 650 and 900 CE.

The murals show strong Maya artistic influence, which is striking so far from the Maya region. Cacaxtla is usually visited together with Xochitécatl, a neighboring ceremonial site on an adjacent hill.
