Cabeza colosal

The colossal heads are enormous basalt sculptures, some nearly three meters tall and weighing several tons, carved by the Olmecs on Mexico’s Gulf coast. Seventeen have been found at sites such as San Lorenzo, La Venta and Tres Zapotes, and they are believed to portray Olmec rulers.

The Olmecs are considered Mesoamerica’s earliest great civilization, older than the Maya and the Mexicas.
