Alta Vista (Zacatecas)

Alta Vista, also called Chalchihuites after the nearby town, is a pre-Hispanic ceremonial center in western Zacatecas, very close to the Tropic of Cancer. It was the main site of the Chalchihuites culture, and its buildings are aligned with astronomical events, which is why it is often described as an ancient observatory.

Along with La Quemada, it marks the northern frontier of Mesoamerica. Don’t mix the two up: both are in Zacatecas, but La Quemada is a different archaeological site, located near Villanueva.
