Intendencia de Arizpe

Intendancies were administrative divisions introduced by the Bourbon reforms to govern the territory more effectively and improve tax collection. Arizpe, in today’s northwest (Sonora and Sinaloa), was the first; with the Royal Ordinance of Intendants of 1786 the system grew to twelve intendancies.
