Gaceta de México

The Gaceta de México first appeared in January 1722, founded by Juan Ignacio de Castorena y Ursúa, and is considered the first newspaper of New Spain. It published official notices along with religious, commercial, and maritime news of the viceroyalty.

Do not confuse it with the Diario de México, which appeared much later, in 1805, and holds a different distinction: it was New Spain’s first daily newspaper.
