La bamba
“La Bamba” is the most famous son jarocho, the traditional music of Veracruz played with harp and jarana guitars. At Veracruz weddings and fandangos, couples dance it with rapid footwork and, in the classic tradition, tie a ribbon into a bow using only their feet.
The song became known worldwide when rock and roll singer Ritchie Valens recorded his hit version in 1958, but its roots lie in the traditional music of the Gulf coast.
