Palacio Nacional (México)

After the conquest, Cortés built his residence over the Casas Nuevas, the palace of Moctezuma Xocoyotzin, facing today’s Zócalo. The Crown bought the building in the 16th century and made it the viceregal palace; today it is the seat of the executive branch and houses murals by Diego Rivera. Don’t confuse it with the Casas Viejas, the palace of Axayácatl where the Spaniards first lodged.
